With the official start of the 2022 Ontario general election campaign upon us, the Archdiocese of Toronto is pleased to announce that we will host another “Election Debate from a Catholic Perspective” on Wednesday, May 18 starting at 7:30 p.m.

Anyone can watch the debate live on the Archdiocese of Toronto’s YouTube channel or Facebook page or on Salt+Light TV. The debate will also be available for catch-up viewing on the Archdiocese of Toronto’s social media channels.

As we did during the 2019 Federal Election Debate from a Catholic Perspective, this will be an opportunity for representatives from the major political parties to share ideas on how they will address some of the Catholic community’s major policy concerns.

The debate moderator will be Peter Stockland, publisher of The Catholic Register. Before coming to the Register, Stockland was the editor-in-chief of the Montreal Gazette, the editorial page editor of the Calgary Herald, the vice president of the English-language Reader’s Digest magazine in Canada, co-founder of Convivium magazine and senior fellow at Cardus.

Our goal is to help Catholics discern their vote on June 2, 2022 through non-partisan materials that explain how Catholic Social Teaching understands the common good in our society. Members of the Archdiocese of Toronto represent among the largest demographic groups in all of the 57 provincial ridings found in the archdiocese’s borders, so it is important that Catholics are engaged and informed during this election. The Catholic vote matters in every Ontario election.
